"Freedom is Knowing your Options" is the creed, the fundamental principle and conviction of Helen Harkness, Ph.D. She founded Career Design Associates, Inc., in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex in 1978.

Having experienced and survived her own career and future shock and chaos in the early 1970s, she designed CDA to teach adults how to work and thrive in our current age of constant change and complexity.

She is a futurist, an experienced teacher, author, and speaker. A pioneer in the research and implementation of career management and enhancement programs and resources, she assists individuals and organizations facing massive change in cultural and work-life transitions.

As a futurist, Dr. Harkness has presented at the World Future Society and coordinated the career counseling for the conferences. In early 1989, Dr. Harkness's individual and organizational CDA clients founded The Pathfinders for the Future Think Tank, which explores, researches and forecasts current trends and future possibilities as they relate to the workplace. The CDA career library includes more than 350 career videotapes for client use.

She teaches popular continuing education courses at Southern Methodist University: including "Re-Careering: The Search for Meaning, Money, Creativity and Control," and "Career Options for Teachers." She taught courses for over ten years at Fun-Ed (now defunct), including "Making Your Career Change," "Using the Myers-Briggs -- the Key to Understand Yourself and Others," and "Best Jobs for the Future," and currently offers courses through The S'Cool.
