Career Design Offices in Garland, 2818 South Country Club Road. Any student who has attended Dr. Harkness' 6-hour career course, Redesign Your Career, at CDA offices, SMU, or elsewhere is eligible to attend a new workshop designed to provide you with additional information for your career research. Dr. Harkness will present Recognizing Your Career Interests Using the Strong Interest Inventory on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 (6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.).

When students have attended the Redesign Your Career course in the past, they have received quite a bit of information about their values, needs and skills. Also, they received:

• Their Holland Code from the Self Directed Search assessment, a broad instrument that is based on a combination of your personality, interests and skills they have used in the past.


• A Holland Code that is based on the skills that they want to use in their future, which comes from the Eureka Skills Inventory.

This information is quite valuable, and provides them with a way to start understanding themselves better.

As a follow-on to these assessments, there is another excellent instrument, The Strong Interest Inventory and Confidence Profile that takes you a step further by providing you with your Holland Code based on your interests only and careers that match your interests.

Based on the needs Dr. Harkness has identified recently, we have scheduled a 3-hour workshop, Recognizing Your Career Interests Using the Strong Interest Inventory. The cost for this 3-hour workshop will be $100.00. This fee covers the cost of the assessment tool, the Strong Interest Inventory and Confidence Profile, which you will take online prior to the workshop. Dr. Harkness will provide an in-depth explanation of the Strong Interest Inventory and Confidence Profile at the workshop, and return your assessment results and additional materials to help you to continue to understand, research and develop your Success Criteria -- the Glass Balls for you to use in developing your Action Plan for the Future.

Dr. Harkness says, “I am not claiming that this will solve a complex career problem, but it will provide you with additional career information. We offer a number of these assessments to clients in our longer programs, and we are pleased to be able to offer the Strong Interest Inventory as a separate course.”
