Lothar Katz — Getting to Yes, Si, Ja, Hai, or Da: Negotiating International Business
Saturday, April 5, 2008. 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Open to the public at no cost
Author and international business advisor, Lothar Katz, will lead this entertaining and thought-provoking session on cultural and ethical aspects of international business negotiations. Few areas present greater challenges and pitfalls when working across cultures. Building trusting relationships is a crucial requirement throughout the critical phases of making contact, exchanging information, bargaining, and reaching agreement. However, differing views of acceptable and unacceptable practices, and misguided assumptions about the other side’s intentions, frequently create huge issues and require profound cultural understanding and adaptability.
Discussing practical examples from around the world, the session will give hints on how to deal effectively with unfamiliar negotiation tactics and ethical conflicts, explore requirements for effective cross-cultural negotiators, and review cultural traits that Americans need to be aware of when negotiating international business.
Come to question and learn!
